外国语学院创建于1977年，是学校最早建立的学科之一。现设有英语专业、日语专业、翻译专业、商务英语专业、大学英语教学部、大专外语教学部。每年招收英语、日语、翻译专业四年制本科学生，商务英语专业自2015年起开始招生。其中，英语专业为省级品牌专业。此外，外国语学院还同时招收应用英语、英语（少儿教育）和应用日语专业三年制学生。2012年开始招收英语课程与教学论研究生。目前有在校本、专科学生1941人，其中研究生96人（在读研究生28人，在职研究生68人），本科学生1007人，专科学生838人。另外,本院还承担了全校非外语专业近2万学生的大学英语、研究生公共外语、专科高职高专英语教学任务。

外国语学院现有教职员工121人，省学科带头人1人，省中青年骨干教师9人， 硕士生导师6人,教授7人，副教授23人，具有博士学位教师4人，在读博士5人，有硕士学位的青年教师92人，并常聘外籍教师8人(英语7人,日语1人)。近年来，外国语学院教师形成了4个学科研究团队：英语语言文学学科研究团队、外国语言学及应用语言学学科研究团队、翻译理论与实践学科研究团队和外语教学研究团队，先后编写了40多部学术专著、译著和教材；发表了英语语言、英美文学、翻译理论、英美文化等方面论文380余篇；获得省级以上科研奖励9项。在研的省级研究课题70多项； 2005年以来，学院有40多名教师先后到英国、美国、澳大利亚、新西兰、德国、法国、日本、南非、新加坡等国学习和考察。

外国语学院拥有先进的教学仪器设备,丰富的文字和声像英语教学参考资料。有1个48座同声传译实训室，外语语言实验室20多个，2个网络外语自主学习实验室，1个外语影视实训室，2个外语电台。

外国语学院实施外语学习的“语言素质+师范技能+专业知识”的新型人才培养模式，注重专业基础和基本技能与素质的培养，强化语言应用能力的提升。坚持课堂教学和课外活动一起抓。创出了很多课外活动品牌，如：英语角，日语角，外国文化月，外文歌曲大赛，英语演讲大赛，日语演讲大赛，写作大赛，翻译大赛，外文报纸，“一帮一”学英语，迎新晚会等。这些活动使学生的专业素质有了很大的提高，每年考取研究生近40余人，考取专升本学生近40人，出国留学、考取公务员、村官、三支一扶、特岗教师近30余人，自考本科通过率高达91%，部分学生在省部级以上的各类英语竞赛中荣获特等奖、一等奖、二等奖、三等奖等。 

School of Foreign Studies

The School of Foreign Studies, one of the earliest schools in the university, was established in 1977. It consists offour departments:the English Department,Japanese Department, the Translation and Interpretation Department, Business English Department. There is also program for the 3-year Students, which consists ofthe English Department andtheJapanese Department. Itoffers programs of Applied (Business) English, Children’s English Education, and Applied (Business) Japanese.  There are 1941 students studying in the school at present.TheCollege English Departmentoffers teachingfor Non-English Majors of postgraduate, undergraduate and 3-year students, altogether,over 20,000 students. The school has one postgraduate program in English Education. The undergraduate program of Englishhas been awarded ProvincialBrand Major.

There are 121 teaching staffin the school.There are 7professors, 23associate professors,4 hold PhD degrees and92 masters. There are 8 foreign teachers (7 English teachers and1 Japanese teachers) in the school. In recent years, the school has produced a provincial English discipline foregoer, 4 provincial middle-aged and young backbone teachers, and 5 research supervisors. What’s more, it has built up 4 research teams which cover English literature,applied linguistics, translation andEnglish education.There are more than 40 academic books published, translations and textbooks, and over 332 academic essays with 9 provincial rewards. Moreover, they are undertaking 36 provincial researchprojects. Since 2005, over 40 teachers have paidacademic visit to England, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Japan, South Africa, Singapore and some other foreign countries.

The school has been carrying out the new talent producing mode: “basic skills + pedagogical techniques +knowledge”.In the past few years, many brandstudents’  extracurricular activities have beenestablished, such as English Corner, Japanese Corner, Foreign CultureExhibitionMonth, Foreign Song Contest, English/Japanese Speech Contest, English/Japanese Writing Contest, Translation Contest, “One Helps One in English Learning”, and Foreign Language Evening. The new practice has greatly benefited the students in specialized qualities. Many students won rewards in provincial contests. More and more students succeeded in the national postgraduate examinations，going to famous universities across the country and some furthered their studies abroad.
